A 23-year-old man, Kingsley Asuquo, was
arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court sitting at Ijaiye Ojokoro on
Tuesday, over the attempted rape of a 15-year-old girl, Oluchukwu
(surname withheld).
The accused was arrested by policemen in Agbado area of Lagos State while he was manhandling the girl in an attempt to rape her.
Prior to this, he had collected a Nokia
phone valued at N3,500 and the sum of N1,000, making a total value of
N4,500 from Oluchukwu.
The police prosecutor, Lugard Ahonle,
said it was the people around that informed the police after Asuquo gave
the girl a fist blow and also collected her phone and money.
“Before the arrival of policemen, the
people around the area had already sat him down, insisting that he
should be punished for such atrocity,” he said.
Ahonle said the accused committed an
offence contrary to the law and punishable under section 260 of the
Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
Meanwhile, Asuquo pleaded not guilty to the charges read to him.
The magistrate, T.A. Akanni, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety with a verifiable address.
The case was adjourned till July 22, 2013 for mention.
